About
JOHN BUTLER
John W. Butler is an award-winning broadcaster, a storytelling road warrior with a country soul and a sharp wit, equal parts Texas radio charm and Maine forest mystery—an authentic voice.
A trivia note: John once rode his bicycle from the Alamo in San Antonio to downtown Dallas to Houston in a bike race between top DJ’s at the #1 rated radio stations in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. John Butler was the DJ from Dallas. It was billed as one of the largest promotions in the history of radio.
He loves adventure and has travel extensively around the world. He has sailed most of the East Coast and West Coast of the USA in sailboats or his power boat — sailed south to Cuba, east through the Bahamas, and heading west he is always up for a day sail along the California coast.
He is the founder of Butler7media, LLC, with broadcasting stations. Early in his career, Butler had unique opportunities to meet with world leaders, from the heads of major companies to members of the Rothschild family in France, as a personal assistant to Wallace Johnson, co-founder of Holiday Inns. (Johnson partnered with Kemmons Wilson to build one of the world’s largest hotel groups.)
In his thirties, John Butler became a widower and single parent with two young children in elementary school, following six years of helping his wife battle cancer. He now has five grandchildren. After loves found and lost, he decided to go it alone.
His community service includes over 2,000 hours given to help cancer patients in honor of his wife, who died of cancer. He has recorded books for the sight-impaired and disabled and serves on the Dallas County Emergency Response Team. He has served on the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, past Religious Heritage of America Awards Co-Chairman with Aerobics pioneer, Dr. Ken Cooper, and has raised funds and been involved in various local, national and international charitable and civic causes over the years.
He graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin and holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Southern Methodist University. He is a native Texan and has lived in California and Florida.
